Students can now earn a fully recognised American diploma while travelling and studying across seven regions of the world.
We're excited to announce a new partnership with Hudson Global Scholars (HGS) that allows high school students at Baret Scholars who have not yet obtained a diploma to graduate with an accredited American High School Diploma — fully integrated into their Baret gap year.
The diploma is issued by Columbia School (Florida), HGS's accredited US private school, and is recognised by universities internationally.
How it works
Students need 20 credits to graduate. Up to 15 can transfer directly from existing transcripts — IB, A-Levels, and national curricula are all accepted — which means most students need as few as 5 additional credits to complete the diploma. Those credits can be earned through courses already built into the Baret year: Global Society I and II, and two Fellowship electives, each with defined learning objectives and HGS teacher oversight.
Every student receives a personalised graduation plan from the HGS Registrar, built around their individual transcript.
University admissions, simplified
Graduates with a 2.75 GPA or above are guaranteed admission to at least one of HGS's 40+ partner universities around the world — with no SAT, no TOEFL, no Common App, and no application fees. Students are of course still free to pursue selective universities in parallel.
A global community to match
Alongside the Baret cohort they'll build throughout the year, HGS diploma students also gain access to the wider HGS community. That means connecting with more than 2,000 students across 25 countries through an online platform running live events, webinars, debates, clubs, and group chats. With more than 20 student-led clubs, it's a space to build friendships and engage with peers well beyond the Baret year itself — another thread of connection that lasts long after graduation.
Who is this for?
The diploma pathway is open to any Baret Scholar in Year 12 / Grade 12 who has not yet received a diploma, from any curriculum background, aged 17–22. It's available as an add-on to the Baret program for $6,000.
